The Mykalissos Red marble resembles the famous from the ancient times Rosso Di Eretria of which the quarries located nearby Ritsona Red. Rosso Di Eretria owns its name to the ancient city of Eretria where today one can see only the remains of the port and acropolis. The presence of ancient quarries confirms that this rock had wide use during the Archaic and Byzantine times as an ornamental material for temples and buildings.
